Patroness of purity and messenger of forgiveness

October 16, 1890

Maria Goretti was born in Corinaldo, Italy. Her father was Luigi Goretti and her mother was Assunta Goretti. 

July 6, 1902

She was stabbed fourteen times by her assailant Alessandro Serenelli as she defended her purity. She died at the age of 11 years, 8 months and 20 days. 

December 26, 1929

Her relics were moved to the Basilica of Our Lady of Graces in Nettuno. 

July 28, 1929

The process of Beatification and Canonization began. 

April 27, 1947

She was beatified at Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. 

June 24, 1950

She was declared a saint in Saint Peter’s Square.

Maria Goretti’s Feast Day.
