9 – The Cross

There are three implications for the Cross and the dark circle behind the Altar:

1. Jesus lifted up on the Cross signifies that God will raise us up with Him to Heaven.
2. The dark circle refers to the rock that rolled away from the tomb on the day of Resurrection. For after Crucifixion is Resurrection and there is no Resurrection without Crucifixion.
3. The dark circle refers to the fact that the Earth was in darkness because of an eclipse that occurred when Jesus was hanging on the Cross between Earth and Heaven from six o’clock until nine o’clock (according to the Jewish time then).

He loves, He hopes, He waits. Our Lord prefers to wait Himself for the sinner for years rather than keep us waiting an instant.
